SHOW QUALITY GOLDEN DUN CONNEMARA GELDING A pure-bred connemara with some of the best old Irish bloodlines - Wisbridge Erinmore & Fort Dara on his dam’s side, with Cloonisle Cashel & Mervyn Kingsmill on his sire’s side. Rory has great bone, super straight paces and gentle temperament. He Is full up 14.2hh and a rare golden dun (buckskin) colour, a true-to-type pony well put together with good length of rein, pony head, excellent conformation and bone to catch the judge’s eye in the show ring. He has no miles on the clock, he was backed spring 2018 and turned away due to owners health problems. He is now ready to come back into work and to fulfill his future promise. If you are looking for a chunky connemara pony for showing, then Rory is the one to come and see. There are not many of his stamp around.
A silver dun colt born in 2008, bought with the intention of keeping him entire. Bred by Pam Megahey, he has not only very old, very good, bloodlines on his sire’s side through Callowfeenish Mairtin, but also has the excellent Sparrow jumping bloodline through his dam - who is the full sister of the Clifden Loose Jumping Competition winner in 2009, Grange Bobby Sparrow. As he was a late foal - born in July - he was only taken to local shows for experience in his first year, and was lightly shown at County Shows in our area as a 2 year old. Broken at three but not ridden out until autumn of that year, when he was hacked out, had jumping lessons and taken to small jumping and dressage shows for experience. He shows amazing athleticism, is very responsive to aids and is extremely powerful. His jumping scope has yet to be tested, but he finds it all so easy. He has a long stride which covers the ground well and lifts with his shoulders when he bascules giving a lovely feel. I am getting glimpses of his ability - phenomenal power in an uphill canter; bold, athletic jumping over any obstacle and effortlessly picking himself up if wrong in a grid; easily copes with lateral work and lengthening....... A real joy to ride such a talented pony!
POA Winner of BE100 event and competing & placed in British Showjumping
Show Producer Stephanie Turner has shown him, achieving great placings in many shows culminating in qualifying for the Hewitt & Family M&M at Equifest, where he came 2nd and a finalist for the evening championships. Produced for BE eventing by Diana Grant. He has the mind, attitude and ability for FEI eventing as he is a very exciting prospect with exceptional talent, and an exceptional price is being asked for this pony. Produced for British Showjumping by Atiya Bussey who has recently been on the British Team in Austria and the Nations Cup in Holland in Children on Horses competitions. Debbie Edmundson, (as junior rider Debbie Saffell who won gold at the Europeans) has him for the early 2019 eventing season, and she says ‘he is great fun!’
Video clips above and below of Rick competing - below at Burnham Market Horse Trials
- dressage of 26.5 leading throughout the competition, double clear showjumping and
cross country, just picking up a few time penalties, but winning his section, and
above coming back into eventing at Horseheath (1) BE90 getting a double clear with
a 32.8 dressage, coming 9th. A good start with a new rider.
BCPS Reg no. G02792-G1 Rick is really enjoying his eventing & showjumping! You can see from the pictures his powerful and HUGE jump. Improving at every competition & relishing the challenge. So much scope - clearing every jump with loads to spare, tucking up his front feet & ‘pinging’ his quarters. He finds the distances easy through doubles and combination fences - such talent! He has been showjumping with a junior in 2018, coming 5th in a huge Discovery class at Keysoe Pony Premier Show 10th June, and jumping really big in the Newcomers. When eventing in 2016, out of 8 events he was placed in four and he WON his BE100 at Burnham Market section- showing an ever bigger jump each competition. He is back eventing for 2019 - he really adores it - 9th in Horseheath (1) BE90 to get him going. Aimed for BE100 at Poplar Park (2) in May. He is looking for a talented and keen young event rider who can take him to the top and do FEI events. He has the scope and ability, and will be a great prospect for a motivated youngster who has their sights on getting to the top in eventing. Alternatively, he could easily take a small adult rider up to Novice eventing and 1.10 or more showjumping, as well as compete in Working Hunter Pony classes and go to the top, as he will always catch the judge’s eye.
